The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Experimental and Clinical Traumatology (LBI Trauma) led by Dr. Johannes Grillari, is part of the Ludwig Boltzmann Society and the central research institution of the Austrian Workers’ Compensation Board AUVA, the social insurance for occupational risks for more than 3.3 million Austrian employees and 1.4 million pupils and students.
Its mission is to improve diagnostic and therapeutic measures in trauma care, specifically in the areas of intensive care medicine (Dr. Marcin Osuchowski) and tissue regeneration (Dr. Susanne Wolbank). Its interdisciplinary teams allow the institute to be engaged in many different fields of medicine. LBI Trauma is involved in numerous Austrian and international research projects with a focus on translational research. Furthermore, international research results are analyzed and evaluated for their practical application within the network of AUVA trauma hospitals.
The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Experimental and Clinical Traumatology acts as organizer and main sponsor of the Wiggers-Bernard Conference Initiative. The Wiggers-Bernard initiative has been originally developed by Dr. Heinz Redl, the former head (1998-2019) of the LBI Trauma.
