The 9th Wiggers-Bernard Conference took place on May 3-5, 2017 in Vienna, Austria under the headline “Pre-clinical Modeling in Sepsis: exchanging opinions and forming recommendations”. International leaders in the field of clinical and pre-clinical sepsis studies met with the key aim of launching an orchestrated effort towards creating the so called “Minimum Quality Threshold in Pre-clinical Sepsis Studies” (MQTiPSS).
These guidelines, in the form of 29 recommendation and consideration points, were simultaneously published in the journals Shock, Infection and Intensive Care Medicine Experimental in 2018/19. The MQTiPSS Executive Summary was published trice in October 2018, while the three full-size MQTiPSS articles were published in the January 2019 issue of Shock.
The approach proposed by the Wiggers-Bernard Initiative has been steadily gaining attention of peers and has been offered a supportive exposure platform by organization such as International Federation of Shock Societies (IFSS), Latin American Sepsis Institute (LASI), European Shock Society (ESS) and European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM).
To support the message and highlight the importance of the MQTiPSS guidelines, ESICM has created a short movie that describes the concepts in layman’s terms.
